Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Memorial day

The first half of our memorial day was spent cleaning up our house. Let's just say that for the past 3 months, I haven't been keeping up on my homemaking duties so well because of a terrible nauseous/throw-up feeling that really never went away. So our home was in deep need of a deep clean. And that's just what it got. What a nice feeling to have a clean home again! Now if it could only stay that way for more than 10 minutes.

The second half of our day was spent doing this:

It was a first for Claire, Benson, and myself! Benson especially loved it. He got to use his very own fishing pole and caught a grand total of 6 fish! Jared tied him with 6 fish too. The place we went to was fabulous. Clarie had fun watching and exploring--but after they caught the second or third fish, she said "we're done now, uh?!" It was hot and there was no shade except for the broken little umbrella Claire and I hogged under pretty much the entire time. It was a fun fishing day followed by more to come, I'm sure!

Claire had blood work today and everything still looks great! Liver numbers are stable. She'll go in to see the doctor tomorrow for a visit. It's been nice to have our doctor visits and lab draws spaced out so much lately!

How fun-- swimming AND fishing?!? Sounds awesome! That's so great that Benson caught so many fish. I bet he was on cloud nine!!

Love the photos!! That place looks amazing!

I hope you're feeling better now that you're over the 3 month hump!
