Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Swimming
We went swimming last Saturday. It was Claire's first time!! She was curious about the whole thing at first, but it didn't take her long to relax and ENJOY! She and Benson loved the life jacket idea and got really brave after having those on. She did the ducky slide over and over and over again. And even threw a mild-classic-2-yr old tantrum when it was time to say bye bye to the swimming pool. It was so fun just to be in the water with both the kids! I'm so excited that we can now do this over and over again now that Claire is dialysis-free!

How fun. I am glad to see her experiencing more first and this is definitely a good one.
