Claire had blood work this morning. Everything went good, but I don't know any results yet. We didn't have to meet with the doctor, so I'm expecting they'll call me tomorrow when all the results are back. But Claire looks and feels great! She's still scooting around everywhere and hasn't tried to walk. I'm surprise she hasn't wanted to walk with the cast on, but the closer to the ground she is the safer she is....so we're not encouraging it either!
We went on a bike ride this afternoon. The first one of the season. And it was no light-heart-ed ride. Jared pulled the kids behind him in the trailer (thank goodness it wasn't me) and we rode to Hy-Vee. I had already been there earlier today but forgot to get some olives for a salad I've been wanting to make. I must have really wanted those olives because it was certainly a sacrifice to get them! My legs pretty much feel like jello and I'm sure tomorrow is going to be even worse. I guess that's what I get for not using them more actively on a consistent basis. But it did feel good to get out, use some muscle, breath a little (or a lot) harder than normal, and get some olives!! The salad turned out fabulous, by the way. But I think I'll take it easy on my legs tomorrow...like I have for the past 2...4...6...months!
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.
