Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Something cute

Benson and I took Claire into the hospital this morning for her daily dose of medicine. (5 more days before she's done...everything still going well). The nurse made friendly conversation with us as she was checking Claire's vitals. She asked if we were from Rochester and I told her we recently moved here from Colorado, but that Jared and I were originally from Idaho and Utah. Benson quickly chimed in that he was from Colorado! He is very proud whenever he gets a chance to say that. Not a second behind Benson's statement Claire said, I'm from the hospital!
