Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

baby news

I've gone from nausea all day every day--to--I'm so hungry and just can't get full over these past 20 weeks!! All because of this little one:

We had our 20 week ultrasound today and everything looks great!! This pregnancy has been soooooooo different than the past two. But actually, all of my pregnancies have been very different from each other. With Benson, I was sick at first, but not terribly yucky. With Claire, I hardly knew I was pregnant--I felt so great the whole time. Number three has been the worst of them all: awful nausea, vomiting, reflux...the works. But I'm finally feeling better!! It's so great to feel hungry again! Now I just need to cook some yummy food to eat (since I've kind of gotten out of that habit the past 20 weeks after not wanting anything to do with food.) Time to start packing on the pounds.

It was so fun to get a sneak peak at the little one inside today. The size of it measures right on to what it should be and all of the internal anatomy appears perfect. We've decided not to find out if it's a boy or girl and we have also decided not to find out if this child has the same disease as Benson and Claire. There's a 25% chance it will have the genetic disease (PH), 75% chance it won't. A blood test after the baby is born will determine if it has the disease or not. Hoping the odds are on our side this time, but either way, we are so excited to have another little one join our family!

I wondered about the odds, you see we have 4 kids Ashton, is mine from a previous relationship, she does not have Ph1 though she carries the gene, Tony and J'naya do have Ph1 and Brycen also does not have Ph1 though he also carries the gene!!!

Congrats! Baby#3 is already just as cute as can be. Thanks for putting up obvious ultrasound pictures. Sometimes I think they make things up saying what the picture is of. :)
Glad you guys are doing great. I think of you and your family often. Take care.
