Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Randoms

A few randoms from the week:

Jared and I ate an entire home-made banana cream pie over the past 3 days. Never before have we been able to pound it alone before the brown bananas on the bottom made us lose our appetite. It was sooooo good. I loved every bite of it. By far my favorite dessert.

Jared and Benson went to a motor cross race this weekend. I don't think either of them could have had more fun. They maybe could have done without the blazing sun and brief rain shower...but I really don't think it fazed them much. Benson still hasn't stopped talking about it.

Claire and I went shopping while the boys were doing their thing. Sweet trade off if you ask me. Every sales associate that greeted us, got us a dressing room, or helped in any way was asked three questions by Claire. 1. Are you are nurse? "No...but I will be some day." 2. Are you a mommy? "Yes...and I'm a grandma too." Or bashfully, "no, not yet." 3. What are you? "uh...a sales associate." What's a sales associate? In her little mind I think she pretty much assumes that every girl in the world has got to either be a nurse or a mommy. And if you're neither of those...well then what exactly are you?!? It was quite amusing for me watch the conversation between the ladies and my little 2-year old. My guess is they haven't been asked such questions by a customer before...let alone a 2-year old...so it was fun to watch their reactions to her inquires. At the end they were all completely in love with our curious little toddler. Good times at the mall. Good results for me too!

And here's a few random pictures of Claire. This was at the hospital last Monday when she was supposed to have her biopsy. I still haven't heard when it will be rescheduled for.

Here's Claire checking out and actually eating one of her dinners! So fun to see.

And it is fasinating to see her interested in her food.
