Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

puzzled

We've had a puzzle day today! Benson and Claire got two puzzles in a package from Grandpa and Grandma Hawks and amongst all the "goods" within, one of the first things Benson wanted to do was a puzzle. I was shocked because we're not so much puzzle-people. Benson even said himself, "I used to think puzzles were boring, but now I think they're fun!" He was determined. I was impressed. He did the two new puzzles, nearly alone, and the puzzle fun only accelerated from there. He raided the basement, brushed off the dust, and puzzled (me) the rest of the day!

Along the puzzle lines...

...my house kind of feels like a puzzle. Not the pretty looking, well-put together kind of puzzle; more like the kind of puzzle that just gets dumped out of the box! We're going to have a garage sale this weekend and we're sorting through anything found in a square of plastic or cardboard. Many of these boxes haven't been opened for a n1u2m3b4e5r6 of years. Most of it is headed for the sale table. Oh the stuff you accumulate. We're ALL DONE with stuff!! Can't wait for my puzzle to be put back together again!
