Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

special

Last week we decorated our Christmas tree! And as you can see, there's one lone present sitting underneath.  This happens to be a very special present from one special girl to another.

Looks like Annie's name ended up on the nice list this year.  And her mom wanted to make sure that her special present was wrapped and tagged just as soon as could be.  Don't tell Annie, but I peeked to see what Claire was wrapping for her.  It's a carton of eggs with chicks in it (which happens to be one of Claire's most treasured personal toys), and tupperware filled with pretend food for Annie.  She's going to LOVE it!

Annie sure is lucky to have such a special mom.

Claire has a special capacity for love. Perhaps because so many people around the world love her.

She is a great one to love and I am glad to be part of her life.

And We sure do love her and the love she has for others.--Even her baby Annie.
