Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Colorado

Well.  Here we are in the beautiful state of Colorado!  And lest I had forgotten how much work moving really is...I have now been reminded.  Moving is a TON of work!!  And since I hadn't yet had the experience of knowing how much extra work it is to clean up after a previous owners extremely hairy CAT, I now know.  And I dislike cats even more so now.  Ugh.  There's a reason I don't have a cat (or any pets at all right now).  In fact there's many reasons we don't.  But top among them are their hairs--hairs all over the drapers, blinds, window seals, floorboards, in the refrigerator, every kitchen cupboard, bathroom drawer, and closets.  Yep.  They're everywhere.  And we've had the great pleasure of somehow trying to dispose of each one of them.  It's been fun!  Or not.  But we're getting there.

Okay, enough about the cat.  Otherwise, the house is fantastic!  We love it.  Super functional for our needs and in great shape.  We'll be renting here for the next year, as we try to figure where we want to settle permanently.  We have some great friends who live just across the street, and met another family across the street whom we'll love getting to know too.  The kids are excited to meet new friends and have been enjoying their new surroundings.

We've been super blessed to have help from our family the past few weeks as my dad and sister took the arduous 21-ish hour journey across the country along with me and 3 small children.  We stopped to see Mt. Rushmore and enjoyed some hotel swimming for a few nights.  Then my mom drove with me from Utah to Colorado the next week and helped with all the initial cleaning and unpacking.  Their help has been invaluable to me.  Jared's brother Ben has been here with us helping too.  It's been so helpful for Jared to have an extra set of hands to haul things up and down the stairs and to assemble dressers, desks, pianos, tables, beds, and whatever else might up in our Ikea cart!  Family is the best.

So far so good.  I'm excited for the day (hopefully in the near future) when playing with my kids, doing the laundry, and making dinner are my only main tasks for the day.  The basement and garage are still full of boxes.  But at least the bedrooms, kitchen, and kind of the living rooms are cleaned and functional.

Another day another box.  With a few soccer games with the kids in between!
