Little Miss Claire. The medical princess has had a lot going on lately. Her kidney function has been declining over the past little while. Not so good. So she's been doing lots of blood work, an ultrasound, urine collections and appointments with doctors. When she did blood work last friday, she had to get poked 3 times before they were able to get a successful stick!! It was very VERY rough and sad. Her poor little veins are getting used and abused. She did blood work again this morning and things still have not improved. SO the next step is a biopsy of her kidney. And so tomorrow she and I will go to the Children's Hospital where our journey once began. We have such great nurses and doctors there to return to. It's nice to at least have some familiarity with all that's going on. We stopped by and saw many of our dialysis nurses last week when we were there for her ultrasound and their excitement to see her was beyond expression! This is was how "big" this little girl was one of the last time we left the hospital from dialysis. Just a week after these pictures were taken we hopped on a plane and headed to MN.

And look at her now!! It is so great and exciting to see the progress she's made! It's neat to remember how far she's come and what a great life she leads!! Truly a blessing.
(ultrasound pict)
However, we still need to figure out what's going on with her kidney. It could be rejection. It could be a virus. A biopsy will give us the best indication of what's happening and how to treat it. So tomorrow she and I will spend the day at our "old stomping grounds!" She's not super excited about the biopsy. She doesn't love being put to sleep. But I'm hoping she'll choose to be calm and just get the sleeping mask over with without a fight :) All we need a is a few deep breaths of that stuff and we can call it good. We should know within the next few days what's going on and the best way to treat it. Good luck, sweet Princess.
