It has been the most memorable, wonderful fall break!! The kids had 10 days off from school and we have truly enjoyed every second of it. It started off with a trip to Moab, UT. We rented a house there along with my mom, step-dad, brother and sister. We went for memorable trips in our Razor and the kids climbed sandy hills and slick rock. We went to Church and to Canyon Lands National Park. We had a campfire underneath a truly amazing sky. I haven't seen the milky way or a shooting star for a long long time. Those are things that need to become a more regular part of our lives!! So incredible. It was so memorable to just lay on the top of a mountain with my family, with no city lights around, and gaze up at these wondrous creations!! Moab was simply wonderful.
And then the best part was that we got to come home, and still have nearly a whole week off with no school for the kids! They loved sleeping in. Every day we had a project to work on around the house that we all worked on together. Then the kids got to do an hour of screens. And then we ate lunch and went out to do something fun together as a family. We went to a pumpkin patch, Halloween costume shopping, to the soccer field for a family soccer game twice, to a park, made a banana cream pie, and added some fun decorations to make our house more spooooooky! I just can't say enough how much I've love having my kids all home this week. They've (for the most part) been kind to one another and simply enjoyed being together…just with us--no friends, no homework, no pressures of being to soccer practice, etc. We've just been able to BE!! And it's BEen wonderful. I wish I could hold onto it forever. With my husband. My baby. My 4 year old. My 8 year old. My 10 year old. They are perfect just as they are.
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.
