Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Part 1

Yellowstone

We stopped in Cody, WY for half a day and the kids took their first step inside a teepee.

Mabel drove us in to West Yellowstone Park....

...okay actually, she was just hanging out with Dad while we waited for these to walk down the road in front of us for about an HOUR. Claire created the song "oh mr. buffalo, buffalo, please mr. buffalo, please get out of the road. Benson and Claire are asking you, to move over so we can go through, oh mr. buffalo, buffalo, please mr. buffalo, please move out of the road!" while we waited in the car. She's a singer, that's for sure...and song writer too, I suppose!

We were so excited to met my family in Yellowstone and created some great memories with them!

Claire hated the mud/stink pots. She's not sleeping in this picture, she's just disgusted by the smell and a little scared that their name was mud volcano. She was worried they were going to blow up at her. Benson loved them.

Looking at the beautiful waterfalls...

Waiting for Old Faithful.

Yes. She was faithful.

Beautiful Mammoth Hot Springs. Mabel's hat flew off here, never to be recovered. We took off her shirt and used it as a hat instead. She fell asleep in no time.

West Yellowstone was beautiful!! Benson especially loved seeing all the animals: elk, deer, buffalo, bald eagle, wolf, and a bear! Pretty much everything but a moose. We loved the mountains, the rivers, the trees, the cool nights, not so much the mosquitos, but it was beautiful and so fun! What a great memory!
