Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

fall fun

We had a Minnesota 1st this weekend! 4-Wheeling! It was a little squishy with all 5 of us on Big Red...it's a good thing we're all little people!

Benson rode in the front, dreaming of the day he'll drive his own. Jared fearlessly led us through the rolling hills, Mabel squirmed between Jared and I and finally relaxed after finding a string on my coat to chew on. Claire lounged out behind me and sang songs the entire time (another reason why Mabel relaxed and enjoyed the ride).

So we weren't in the Idaho mountains.....instead we saw a tractor plowing his field

...horses feeding in the hills

...cows grazing in the pasture

...and rows and rows of corn.

Different but BEAUTIFUL.

Just caught up. I love your enthusiasm and zest for life, Natalie. I'm glad Claire is doing so well. It looks like both the kiddies had amazing birthdays, and you guys are having so much fun camping and exploring where you live. The bike looks awesome! And what an amazing mother you are in home schooling the kids. I guess with all of the appointments that makes the most sense, but still, what a feat! You're wonderful!!! Miss you.
