Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

family stuff

Gee. I sure feel like we've been busy. But what's new. That's simply life! Everyone's life, I'm pretty sure.

Benson is subbing for a neighborhood paper route this week. He absolutely LOVES doing it. He delivers almost 60 papers to either a door mat, porch box, mail box, screen door, plastic box, milk jug, or whatever else the resident desires to have the paper put into! It took a few days for both of us to get the hang of it, but I feel like we've now got it down and he cruises right along! I drive him and Claire along in the front seat (shhhh, don't tell the cops) and they run in and out of the van for about an hour. Claire likes folding the papers and handing them to him out the window. She sits. He runs. Both are happy. She knows how to take the leisurely route...and still earn a dollar or two for herself! Benson is motivated by money. Period. He's always thinking of ways he can make money off from other people. How great to be able to sub for this route and make it come true! He can't wait to get his $80 for his 8 days of delivering papers. Not bad for a 6-year old. He's saving his money to buy either a motor bike or a 4-wheeler. Won't be too much longer before he'll be ready to cash it in for his grand prize!

Mabel's been a little sick this week. She has a cold...so it's kind of been putting her down a bit. Benson has it now (but won't give up doing his paper route even with the sniffles)...and I think I have a small case of it too. SO even though I feel like we've been busy, I think we've mostly just been doing the daily stuff of living in a family...but it seems like MORE with slightly sicker/tired bodies around the house. Luckily Claire and Jared have been well!! Hooray!

School shopping is done. Meet the teacher is a week from tomorrow. I'll officially have a 1st grader in 13 more days! I can't believe it. How does time go so fast?! I know that's what everyone says...but it's just weird when it actually happens to YOU!

I get my camera back tomorrow...yeah!

Benson is quite the entreprenur. We are sure he will be a success. Just got to get him through 12 years of schooling.

Keep up the good work Benson. Got to love him.
