Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Liver resluts

SO Thursday...(yes I am a few days behind)...produced great news for Claire! Her blood work showed liver numbers that were perfectly normal! What a blessing. I asked the doctor if he thought there would be future problems with the bile duct and his response was that if it's been working for the past 11 days (post having the tube removed) he completely expects it to work with no further difficulties for as long as needs be! There's always a possibility of further complications but it is NOT expected there whould be! How great is that?!

Sometimes it takes time. Sometimes it takes patience. Sometimes it takes sacrifice. This time it took all of those. WITH a lot of faith, fasting, and prayer added. I feel so happy for Claire!! I feel like she's in such a great "state" of life now. She's eating everything on her own (with only tube feedings at night). She only has blood work only once a month (easy peasy). And she doesn't have any lines/tubes/plastic sticking out of her body (other than her g-tube but that's no biggie and is still needed for giving medicines). She has energy, feels great, and can do just about anything other almost 5-year old can do! All those things combined have never come together in her whole life! She has been so blessed. Our hearts are overflowing with JOY for where our miracle princess is at right now. Today.

Now let's just hope it lasts (for at least a good while!)
