Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Nauvoo

Well.  Here we are.  Still chugging along.  The floors are mopped and the cupboards are stocked with food (neither thanks to me).  That must mean we have company!!

Last weekend we drove to Nauvoo, IL with Grandpa and Grandma Jacobs, Grandma Great Waite, and my sister Aleena.  How fun was that?!  FUN indeed!  Nauvoo is a place where our Church (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) has a lot history in the early 1800's.  We learned about living in the 1800's, how they built a beautiful temple, and more about our history.  It was so beautiful this time of year.  The leaves are turning beautiful fall colors and the weather was absolutely perfect!!  Here are a few of the hundreds of pictures we snapped!!

The kids loved sleeping in the 'bunk-bed' hotel, swimming in the pool, and exploring pioneer crafts like candle making, rope making, bread making, and barrel making.  Having grandparents and Aleena around just put icing on their cake!  We all learned a lot and came to better appreciate time "back then."  It really is amazing to see how they survived with what little they had.  Makes me more grateful for my dishwasher, electricity, oven and WalMart trips.  Now we're home and having fun with family!  I love it!
