Benson had thursday and friday off this week for MEA. And me, being the exciting mom that I am...scheduled some things for him to do: a 24 hr. urine collection, blood work, 2 random urine samples, and a kidney ultrasound. Fun, right?! He actually loves peeing in a cup for 24 hours. And I think he broke a record this time with the total volume he got. He made a graph of the number of times he went potty and how much he got from each episode. Doing this made him want to get more than he got the last time and so he'd drink more!! And it worked! He really wanted to pass the 3000 ml mark and he got well beyond it by the end. Most of us don't measure the total urine we make in a 24 hr. period...but let me tell you, that is a lot of pee! More than most adults, I'm sure. Okay, I suppose I should change the topic. Just had to say how much he loved doing it...and it actually was kind of fun for him...so I guess I'm not that boring of a mom if he had a good time, right?!
All this medical work-up is just for his bi-annual check up. We'll meet with the doctor next friday to hear the results and get the update about how things are looking for him then. He's a pro with blood work and ultrasounds so it was all a piece of cake for him. And he even got a yellow-smiley-faced-slinky out of it from the blood work people. Claire was jealous that she didn't have to do blood work. She really wants a turtle from the blood work prize box. She even tried to get Benson to pick a turtle for his surprise and she offered to pay him $1. When she increased her offer up to $3 Benson's eyes started to open wider, but I stopped her and said she would have her turn in 2 more weeks to get her prized turtle...for free. It's rough when a 5-year old only has to do blood work every 1-2 months instead of every week or two. The blood work prizes have decreased dramatically around her and I guess she's feeling some withdrawals from it!
And that's just about as exciting as things have gotten around here! WE did have a little Halloween fun this afternoon, though, when all Benson's hospital fun was over with. The kids made haunted halloween brownies and decorated them as spooky as can be. AKA...put as much candy on as possible so I get double sugar with each brownie bite! It was pretty fun.
Things are well. I am well. Thanks for the well wishes.
