Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

May 2

Here is Benson and some school friends 6 days ago at his field trip.  It was a beautiful day outside that I got to enjoy with him at the Arbor Day celebration downtown.  Booths, prizes, games, and they even got to plant a tree at Chester Woods.  It was a fun day to spend with my sweet boy.  I love that he still wants to hold my hand while we're walking from here to there and was so proud to have his mom along for the ride!  I'm so glad to be his mom.

And here we are today.  May 2.  A late winter storm and a ginormous one at that!!  We were without power until this afternoon...just when it was starting to get cold inside the flicker of light came through and the furnace turned on.  How we miss the comforts of modern conveniences when somethings out of the ordinary!  We were without hot water from Saturday till Tuesday because our hot water heater decided to stop working.  It's little things like hot water and lights that we take for granted every day!  Nice to have it back.

Notice the pine tree on the right side...completely laying flat on the ground from the weight of the heavy snow.

We dug the snow cloths out of the "THOUGHT WE WERE DONE WITH THIS" tub and the kids enjoyed the tromping through the snow and catching snow flakes on their tongue.  Jared thought he was going to have the day off work since we had no electricity for him to use the computer with.  Wrong-o.  Jared and his friend worked harder than usual outside snow blowing 8 home's driveways & sidewalks (just to be kind) and using his chain saw to help neighbors clear away fallen branches blocking their driveway.  Not the way we expected to be spending May 2 but adventurous none the less!

Hopefully that is the last big snow storm. It looked pretty bad.

Glad to know that spring is around the corner.
