Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

mid-November already?!

Okay.  So here we are.  Already the middle of November.  Wow.  Jared had a happy happy birthday the first weekend of November.  By request, I made him a banana cream pie for dessert.  By the kids request, he opened his presents As Soon As Possible.  And by his request, it was a easy-going, family-fun birthDAY!  We're so lucky to have this guy around.  He works hard; plays hard; and keeps us all in line ;)  ON his birthday, the kids made some fun of their own while we were cooking/cleaning/etc.  They dressed up in colors all night long.  First it was all white, then black, then blue.  It was hilarious.  They loved it, laughing all the way.  I wasn't thrilled that all the cloths they pulled out ended up in their laundry baskets (surprise surprise) but it was a fun memory for them non-the-less.

ON Saturday we fed the geese at a nearby pond.  That was certainly a highlight for the weekend!  They loved it!  And the geese were so friendly…they almost took it right out of your hand!  After the bread crumbs were gone, the kids made it their mission to get every single geese in the water.  There was probably nearly 100 geese there and they chased every one of them into the water before we left!  The geese were honking like crazy after the mayhem my kids caused for them, but what proud, shinning kids I had leaving the pond as a result of their accomplishment!!  First question upon leaving…when can we go back and feed the 'ducks' again!  Next time bring a whole loaf of bread!!
