Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Mable #3

Little Mabel Sue turned a week ago!  She was so excited for her birthday.  Weeks leading up to her birthday she said over and over…"my birthday is coming up!"  And even as she walked down the stairs on her birthday morning and found evidence of her birthday all around, she said again "my birthday is coming up!"  I think she realized soon that it WAS her special day pretty quick!!  She felt like a Minnie Mouse Princess all day and was spoiled with attention, love, and presents of course :)  Mabel is a constant source of joy, laughter, and snuggly love in our home.  All of our lives have been blessed for the HAPPIER when she was born 3 years ago!  We just keep loving her to pieces and can't get over how grand she is!  Happy day to you, Princess Mae.

We went to Monkey Business and jumped, played, colored, painted…awesome 3-year old fun!

Mabel got her matching pj set to match Claire's.  Beautiful princesses!
