Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

december fun

December was a fantastic, busy month!  We enjoyed seeing beautiful lights at the Denver Botanical Gardens.

Mabel was in a little Nutcracker play with her preschool.

And Claire celebrated her 5-year transplant anniversary with her usual tea party.  She picked out a ballon for each of the kids and chose her food/sugar of choice for the tea party.  It was a delightful night.  I really can't believe it's been FIVE years since she got her transplant.  Time goes by too incredibly fast.  She has been so blessed this past year with good health.  We are so grateful for the miracles she's been given over the past 5 years.  It truly is remarkable.

A few days before Christmas we ventured all the way to the North Pole  (which was conveniently located for us in Colorado Springs).  There's an outdoor amusement park that the kids obviously enjoyed every second of and there was a live magic show that was fun to watch.  After waiting in line to see Santa for quite some time, the kids decided it wasn't worth it…not when there's more rides to enjoy before we all got too freezing cold.  So on with more rides they went!  It was a fun, cold afternoon for all to enjoy!

Five years?!?!? How does the time go by so fast. I am so glad that Claire is doing so well. She is adorable. I need to visit the North Pole sometime, it looks really fun.
