Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Ticking Clock

re-posted from cotaforbensonandclaires.com

Our time in Denver is quickly drawing to a close. We have been very busy packing, de-junking our house, and making quite a mess as we get ready for our move to Rochester, Minnesota in "T MINUS" 8 days!
Clarie is doing well. Although she doesn't understand the change that will take place in 8 days, she is enjoying every last minute she has with all her favorite nurses at the hospital. She loves them and they love her. She makes them smile. They make her laugh. She knows ALL of their names and they will miss saying her's. It has now been OVER 1 year that she has seen nearly every single day of the week. The hospital and the amazing people we work with there are HER (and my) home away from home. It will be hard to say good bye.
Her new thing as we drive to the hospital each day is to say, "What's that, Momma?" or "Look at that, Momma" as she points to anything out of the ordinary on the road...motorcycles, truck with trailers, busses, or even a brighly colored vehicle. She must be on the verge of being a TODDLER!
