Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

We loved visiting Gifty on our day off today! She looks marvelous! We were so excited to see her going for a walk in her stroller. Gifty is doing well. Still a few bumps to get over before she can be released from the hospital, but she's on the right path. It made Claire and Gifty very happy to be together again.

What an inspiring sight- two beautiful, healthy girls. Keep up the fight Gifty!
How precious are they! Man, I just realized how weak I am compared to these two strong spirits. I am so inspired by them. Glad to hear things are going well.
Hey there
I heard about you through rochestermama and have been checking in now and then. I just found out about this website http://www.igive.com that lets you buy things from your favorite places and they donate a percent of it to whatever cause you'd like. Also, everytime you use them as a search engine they donate like 2 cents or something.
I didn't see Benson and Claire on there, but I thought it was a good idea to help raise some more money for them or Gifty or whomever?! Then you could add a link to your blog.
Anyhow, just an idea . . .
Glad to see Claire's doing so well!
