Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Wow. Another week has gone by so fast. Why can't the last 4 weeks of pregnancy go by as fast as the first 4 weeks post birth!!!

Let's see...

...this past week Claire had an echo of her heart on Thursday. She seriously should get the "patient of the year" award. This is a test that she HAS to stay still and quiet for, otherwise they would have to sedate her and do it while she is asleep. And of course, she was perfectly still and quiet for the entire HOUR! Quite an accomplishment for a three year old. I was impressed, as was the technician performing the exam. She has quite a few other tests for her one year post transplant evaluation this coming week. AND I can't believe it's already nearly been a year since she got her transplant!! Wow. What a year.

Benson had his school Christmas program this past week as well. He was so excited to perform for us with his classmates. His favorite song was "Joy to the World." I got the chills when the kids shouted (literally) "JOY TO THE WORLD" three times as they punched their fists in the air and then sang the rest of the song! It was great!! So fun to watch him grow up and do all the fun "school" things I remember doing growing up.

We are now officially living in a winter wonderland. We had some amazing snow fall this past weekend. Saturday was one of those days that you just want to stay inside, drink hot chocolate, and watch a movie. So what did we do? We went to the Church for a Christmas breakfast, drove to Mayo to take some family pictures, and later went to a friends house for dinner and games! We were hardly home an hour while the blizzard was in full force! Jared LOVES the snow...loves playing in it...driving his truck in it...and pulling people out of the huge snow mounds their cars get stuck in. So it was an eventful, snowy day for us! ((oh, and we got rear ended Saturday afternoon. Nothing major...we were stopped at a stop sign and the guy behind us didn't break soon enough and couldn't stop. It didn't do much damage to our truck...just a few scrapes, but the front of the other guy's car was damaged quite a bit. Scared us all but everyone was fine.)) Church was canceled as a result of all the snow, as was Benson's preschool today (monday). Our sledding hill in the back has greatly benefited as a result of all the snow! Now we just need to get the temp a bit above 0 degrees so it won't be so cold playing outside!!

Claire had a little stomach bug these past two days. She's felt much better this afternoon and perked up quite a bit. Hopefully it will pass quickly and nothing more will come of it.

Looking forward to a great week!

Seriously, time does seem different post-pregnancy doesn't it???

Glad you are out and about and doing fun things. Tis' the Season right?

Those pictures of Mabel are DARLING. She is so sweet. I hope you will give her a kiss for me.

Enjoy that snow. We don't have a lick of it!

We are looking forward to spending some time in the snow ourselves. Of course we will have to come to Minnisota to do that.

Or do you think the snow will be melted by Christmas?

It was in the 60's today and Diana washed her car. Me. I worked in the yard and raked up some leaves.

Glad to read your post and yes the pictures of Mabel were precious. I almost wrote Claire's name. I still have some difficulty with using the proper names.
