Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

March 17 9:00 pm

Happy St. Patricks Day! I should have done more to make it a fun green day, but didn't. That's just what it is today. We wore green. And that was about our extent of green fun. Boring.

We had a good day regardless though. Benson and I read book after book. He loves books lately! Claire was busy as a bee playing pretend babies, doctor, and kitchen. They also both had fun strutting around with their backpacks and going to "school." We had a little mini-school time for both of them and Claire was especially thrilled to have school for her too! It was great. We had fun. Could have been a bit greener with our fun, but oh well. Maybe next year we'll go all out. Maybe not. But maybe.
