Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

biopsy
Claire's liver numbers were up again yesterday so she will have a liver biopsy on Friday. They could be up as a result of her cold or it could be a true issue with the liver function. Can't know for sure without a biopsy so hopefully we'll have more answers after Friday. This time Mabel will be there to keep us company too! Good thing she's a champ-of-a-baby!

They always said that "Three is Company" so you are in good company when you take Benson, Claire and now Mabel to the doctor or hospital. They are all troopers and wonderful little warriors.
We will pray for Claire and that the level levels will be acceptable on Friday.
Ah man. Hope that liver is just playing tricks on us. Darn numbers going up. I am telling them to go down right now. Ask Claire if she can hear me...
