Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Christmas picts

Notice the blue hospital gloves. That would be Claire's idea. At first she didn't want to get her hands dirty...but eventually took them off because it was too hard to pick up the small candies. I was happy that by the end, she was finally okay with having a little frosting on those cute little fingers of hers!

Boy oh boy. Santa sure delivered this year!

Claire liked the idea of sitting on Santa's lap much more than actually doing it. She's already building up her courage for next year and said FOR SURE she'll do it then.

The three best presents Jared and I could ask for.

Favorite gifts. Nerf gun for Benson, Bouncer for Baby Annie, and Mabel's cozy blanket.

Looks like a pro already!

Looks like you have some budding musicians in your family. We enjoyed listing to Benson play the piano. Keep up the lessons in the new year. We also heard Mabel in the back.

Happy new year.
