What a great holiday we've had!! I feel like I've been on vacation, even though we've been home the whole time...and that's a great way to feel!! We had probably the best Christmas ever and a very Happy New Year!! The kids absolutely LOVED Christmas this year. Benson is always excited and anxious for the big day and this year, Claire was too!! Quite a contrast to the Christmas we spent in the hospital last year. She couldn't wait to see if Santa brought her a bouncer, high chair, and crib for her baby. And how elated she was to see he had! Benson was especially excited about his new nerf gun and bike. All day long he kept saying, this is the best Christmas ever!! And it was. I loved just being with my sweet little family, playing with their toys all day, not worrying about how clean the house was, and enjoying yummy holiday treats all day long. It really was perfect. And having sweet little Mabel with us just put the icing on the cake...the candy on the cane...the star on the tree!
I absolutely LOVE having this sweetest baby in my arms. I feel so blessed to be able to return to the "baby stage" again with Mabel and am enjoying every minute of it. She is a precious one.
We had such a fun week with our family too. My dad, step-mom, and sister came out for the week. I wish there was a way to slow time down so those fun, entertaining, family-filled weeks didn't go by so darn fast!! We made some great memories together: sledding, after Christmas shopping, Wii games galore, card games at night, New Years' Eve party and Mall of America trip. Such a fun way to end the year and begin a new one!
pictures to come soon.
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.
