Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

biopsy

Biopsy day was good. Claire was not so thrilled about not being able to eat all morning. For someone who is learning and getting quite good at eating...it's hard to say "NO, you can't eat or drink anything!" But she was patient enough and was so excited to eat her cheerios after the biopsy. It was fun to have Mabel along for the day. She's such a good little girl. If Claire wasn't cute enough for all the nurses to see...the two of them together just put it over the top!

I love it when Claire looks out of the corner of her eyes. That is so Claire!

Now which one is the patient here??!?

You better watch out when Claire is looking out the corner of her eye. Yes she is beautiful and so cute. I love the expression on her face.
