Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

another day down

Today was a good day. She is feeling much much better. It was a longer day for both of us because she was feeling better...she wanted to be up and out and about more....but still needed to take it easy in the bed. Thank goodness for Dora (wait, did I just say that?)

Tomorrow she will come home for sure, assuming everything continues to go well through the night. But it's not over yet. We'll have to take her back to the hospital twice a day, every day till March 22 for IV antibiotics. 8 am and 7 pm. That's doable. A lot better than staying inpatient at the hospital for the antibiotic. One more day....one more night and we call all sleep under the same roof again! Hooray!

That is good news. I can't imagine keeping THREE kids occupied in a hospital room. Hope she continues to improve daily.
