Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

home...hopefully for GOOD!

We're home!! And in Claire's words, "SO EXCITED!"

The doctors switched her antibiotic to two different ones that so far, she hasn't had an adverse reaction to. One of them is still IV and we'll do that at the hospital every day at 8 am and 7 pm until next Tuesday. The other one we'll give through her g-tube for 2 more weeks.

Not so bad. Weeks go by fast, and really, being at the hospital isn't all that bad as far as Claire is concerned. Especially when you have your best friends right there to keep you company!

Claire "working" behind the nurses station just before we were discharged to go home today. She's telling me to close the door to her room so Mabel can sleep. She doesn't let much get past her...and didn't want to leave "work" either! The nurses would have gladly kept her around if I'd let her!

I love the pictures. Claire seems to love having a baby siter. She also looks ready to be a nurse herself. Very cute.

Natalie, so sorry to hear about the hospital ordeal, but glad that things went well. I'm sure she is their favorite little patient. What a sweet girl! She is such a special one.

Hopefully the hospital is not looking for a young enthusiastic worker. Or they might just recruit Claire to fill the job.

She appears to be quite at home. She certainly knows the routine and procedure to follow.

Mabel is blessed to have such a caring loving big sister, as Claire.

Benson doesn't want to be left out so he just has to fit into the hospital routine also.

Cute pictures of the family.

Glad Claire is home. We will pray for her wellness.
