Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

happy day for Mabel

It's official. She has now been OUTSIDE of my tummy longer than she was IN! Happy 9-month day for Mabel Sue! Why is it that the 9-months previous to her birth went by sooooo much slower than the 9-months following! Cant' believe she's already that old!

I was going to take a cute picture tonight of her....and then she bonked her head on the chair she was trying to stand up against and got a really big goose egg. It's black. It's blue. She was sad. The joys of being an unstable 9-month old, wanting to be bigger than her legs are ready for! She actually let us hold ice (aka assorted frozen peppers) on it for a while and that helped the swelling a lot! She wasn't the happiest camper so we'll hold off for a 'cute' 9-month picture till another day!

We did take her into the doctor today for a check-up and she is a wee-little-one. She's only 15 lbs. 4 oz and 26 in. long. He wants me to fill her up with baby food and get more calories in her...and so that's what we'll work on doing! She's a good eater and doesn't ever seem like she's hungry for more food, but she just might be like the rest of us Skinners--we kind of just eat enough to get by.....not so much to indulge and get overly full!! But I'll focus more on filling up that tummy and chunking up those cute little legs of hers!

I could fatten her up for you in a second. I need someone to test my baking and it is not doing me well to do that tasting myself! :)

She would be cute with a goose egg. I have a little boy sporting one right now. He tipped over the rocking chair and BONK! Poor little things. They should wear baby helmets.
