Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

St. George

Benson, Mabel and I had a busy week last week. We flew high in the sky to St. George, UT for my Grandma's 90th birthday celebration!! Grandma Hawks is amazing. This is her motto: "I will Pray. I will Work. I will Think. I will Believe. I will Forgive Others." What a world this would be if we all lived by such a motto! She's amazing for being 90 but she's also just simply amazing. And I LOVED her polk-a-dot dress!!

My Grandma has 30 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-granchildren and MANY of them were at the party!! We went hiking in the beautiful St. George rocks...

Benson could have stayed here for HOURS and never got board. He may have gotten hot, but not board.

...Swimming at the splash pad/river

...And created many family memories.

Benson loved "working" for grandpa. He's earning and saving his money to buy a motorbike...which I hope takes him a long time to do!! Among his favorite jobs were cleaning out the cockroach traps and taking the dog Molly for walks. He worked hard throughout the week, but got paid a whole lot more than he probably deserved. Between Benson and his cousins "working" for grandpa all week, I think they just about broke the bank! Anyone else need a 5-year old "will work for money" around their house?!?!

Mabel also created memory to be cherished for a lifetime on our trip. She met her great-great Aunt MABLE!! My (other) Grandma's sister is the beautiful woman who our Mabel was named after!! She lives not too far from my dad so a visit with "the Mabel's" was a MUST!

It took little Mabel a minute to warm up to her namesake but once she did, they just couldn't get enough of each other!!

Good times had by all!! Hooray for a reason to get together, celebrate our amazing Grandma, and create lifetime memories! Sad to say good bye but always nice to be back home.
