Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

week-o-fun

What a week we had! My dad, step-mom, and all my siblings came out to Minnesota last week and we went up to a cabin in Whalan, MN for some fun! The best part was just being together as a family and creating wonderful memories. It was a fun, busy vacation with a wide variety of fantastic activities! Here's evidence of all the fun we had!

The 4 little rascals.

Couldn't they be siblings?! This is one of my most favorite pictures. Little Brysen loved Mabel. He always wanted to be with her and give her hugs.

Twins. Mabel loved the bright, colorful lines on their shirt.

Jared and I loved golfing! We were able to go out twice in the early mornings. So beautiful and relaxing...even if we're not that good! I suppose I should speak for myself. Even if I'm not that good! Jared is quite good!

Riding our bikes on the beautiful bike trail along the river.

...an activity we all enjoyed!

The gang.

Looking over the bridge that we rode to our our bike ride....watching some teenagers jump off. "I would never do that," says Benson. "I would, " says Me! Dad, Jared, Ryan, Brice, and I all jumped off during our canoe trip down the river. SO FUN!

The kids loved playing in the river...which was just a short walk from our cabin. I didn't take my camera on our tubing or canoe rides down the river but it was definitely a highlight of our week! There's just something about being out on the water that is...FUN! It was a lazy river so we were all able to enjoy it (minus Mabel....I didn't dare take her in case of an accidental flip-over!)

Water FIGHT.

Playing horse shoes.

Making a mud castle. A memory the kids won't soon forget. (I just have to record for "funny-sake" a comment made by Claire. While making the castle, Claire suddenly had a great idea: "We need a food storage room for our mud castle!" Grandpa put her in charge of that creation right away. That's Jared's daughter for ya!

Loved it. Every minute. :)

What a great vacation. I bet it was nice having them all come out to your area. :) Less driving that way.

Family trips are the best!
