Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

a day to celebrate

Happy Birthday to our 5-year old Princess Claire!!

It's been a fabulous party day for the Skinners.

I love remembering Claire's birth day.

We've been going ALL day long.

She's a whole hand-full now.

I'm pretty exhausted.

More tomorrow.

Glad that Claire is another year older. Time has gone by pretty fast. Hard to beleive that she is five.

We have loved all of those five years. Some have been harder than others. But they are behind us now. Looking forward to the next five years.
