Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

preschool starts

Happy 1st day of preschool Claire! Claire is doing a preschool with friends from our church. Each week, Claire goes to a different friend's house where that mom is the teacher for the day. And then the girls learn, play, snack, and giggle! Four very important ingredients for a fabulous preschool year! She loves it. And for that brief 2 hour time block...it's just me and little Miss Mabel! I almost didn't know what to do with myself this morning! It didn't take long to get busy though when I realized we were out of bread. And Mabel is almost as big a helper as Claire is when it comes to making bread...so we got to work!
