Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

pokes and bike rides

Claire did her monthly blood work today. We put the "magic" cream on her arm so she wouldn't feel the poke going in and Mabel was very adamant about having some cream on her arm too. So we fulfilled her request with a little lotion and tape. She wasn't too sure about it once all was done with, but she sure does like being "twins" with her sister!

Things look great for blood work. Yeah!

Benson had the day off from school today, so we decided to take advantage of him being home and Jared being available...and went on a bike ride along the Douglas trail. We enjoyed a little picnic and tree climbing too :) Fall is definitely in the cool air, making it a great time to be outside and enjoy nature as much as we can!
