I am so grateful for modern medicine! Seriously, how blessed we are to live in a time and place where he can see a doctor within hours of me calling in, get antibiotics just 30 minutes after our visit, and have him start feeling better just hours after that! It is amazing! He and I are both so thankful experience those blessings.
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Benson
Poor Benson Boy. It's just been a rough winter for him! He came home early yesterday from school and I took him into the doctor just a few hours later. He had a cough, fever, and was having difficulty breathing. As I suspected, he has pneumonia. He just can't catch a break! I feel like it's one thing after the next for him this winter.

With all the snow days and sick days Benson's had off from school this month (snow day last tuesday, fever last wednesday, snow day this monday, sick day tuesday and wednesday) it certainly has been a challenge to not have the TV around. Not so much for the kids but for me! They actually don't ask about it, talk about it, or even wonder how many more days we have left. But then I just have to come up with that many more interactive activities to keep everyone busy, happy, and not fighting on these cold, wintry, sick days!! Mark today down as another one! Maybe I'll get some of the laundry folded that's been sitting in basket since...uh Friday?!
