Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

lazy day

We had a super, upper, dupper, smupper, relaxing, do-nothing kind of day today. After Benson's basketball game this morning, we did clean up the house a bit...but that was simply our motivation to do nothing more for the rest of the day. It's nice to have those kind of days ever now and then. Our biggest activity was our trip to Pappa Murphys for pizza, Hyvee for soda, then we all enjoyed a little Kung Fu 2 action! Good times.

The latest form of entertainment around here.

To be honest, I am a bit anxious/nervous to see what the next step is going to be for Claire. I feel like the "monthly-stretching-of-the-bile-duct" plan was the best, least invasive, least complicated fix to the whole problem. I'm just not sure what the next step will be and how much more invasive and complicated it may be. More on Monday.

Some days you need a do nothing day. Just to get rested up for the next day.

We never know what is in store for us. We only have to be prepared the best we can.

And to know we don't have to face the day alone.
