Claire made it through the night without a fever, but she was up 4 times, moaning with a head ache. We were soooooo glad we didn't have to take her in in the middle of the night. That's a blessing. However, this morning, she wasn't feeling or acting any better and was complaining of pain when she went potty; she was also itching pretty bad, everywhere, and her skin was red and blotchy. So I decided we better get her checked out just to make sure something major wasn't going on.
The Emergency Dept. check in is always fun (or not). They placed an IV, drew labs for blood cultures, got a urine sample for cultures, and did a chest x-ray. After all that, they found that the urine actually looked pretty "clean" and didn't suspect that was the cause of all her difficulty. Her bilirubin was up, which makes ya think something might be irritating/wrong from a liver standpoint. Because there wasn't an easy answer nor a quick fix, they decided it'd be best to admit her at least for the night to see how she does and see what answers we can come up with. They did an ultrasound of both kidney and liver, started her on two antibiotics, and I THINK that was the last of the tests for today. She's feeling and looking better tonight than earlier today and her temp has remained normal.
Soooooo, I guess we'll wait and see what tomorrow brings. Hopefully she'll at least be able to come home tomorrow, but I'm not sure what they'll think about her bile drain line. They uncapped her drain line and opened it to a bag, thinking that should help her bilirubin come down, but the question is, what made that irritated in the first place? Of all her liver numbers that have been so high and crazy these past few months, her bilirubin is the ONE that has remained normal--up until now. There was some talk about possibly going in to dilate her bile duct again to see how everything looks internally with the drain line, but that's still to be determined.
Claire is such a trooper. It was a long day and they did a lot of stuff. She gets a little anxiety thinking of what's coming next, but when it comes time to perform task X, she settles right down and let's the deed get done. Everyone who comes in contact with her can't help but love her and admire her patience with all that needs to be done. I'm so blessed to be her mom and learn from her. Hopefully the night is uneventful for her and results tomorrow will lead us in the right direction.
SO I got the day shift and Jared gets the night. Good luck hun. Sleep well :) You might have to try a bit harder than I will...thanks for taking one for the team. I can't wait to eat a bowl of Fruity Cheerios.
This is the face of an I-don't-feel-good Claire.

Claire was happy to see Benson and Mabel this afternoon. Mabel and Benson had fun playing in the playroom while Claire did her ultrasounds.

Hope things are better today.
Those kids look quite at home there in the hospital.
