So the update for today isn't too eventful...but enough to keep us here till Wednesday!! They really want to wait till the blood cultures come back in 2 more days to know if she has any kind of infection. The culture they took from her bile drain line is growing two different bugs--they'll know more about how to treat those tomorrow. After they find out what/if she has any other infection and how to treat it, they want to figure out what's going on with the drain line. So on Wednesday, they scheduled a procedure to look into her bile line and see if there was some obstruction or if it got pulled out of place...mostly to see if there was some reason related to the drain line as to why her bilirubin went so high. Her bili is now back to normal, with the drain line connected to a bag, but hopefully we won't have to keep it like that forever. While she is under for that procedure, they will also most likely dilate the bile duct so we won't have to come back in another two weeks for that monthly procedure.
So we're just waiting now. She's still on an IV antibiotic three times a day that they'll continue till we know for sure what's growing in the cultures. Claire feels good hasn't had any other fever so that's a good sign.
She's been having fun playing doctor today, although if you ask her if she's a doctor, she quickly says "no!" One nurse got Claire her very own doctor box filled with just about any kind of medical equipment you'd ever need. And it's the real stuff too...the fake plastic gadgets just don't cut it any more for her liking. She knows too much. Kind of on the crazy side, but she got her own 'blunt-tipped' needle to draw up saline with and she LOVES doing it and pushing it through the tube. Nice to have something other than movies to entertain her since we've got a lot of time on our hands! We've had fun putting stickers on a page, painting, and reading books too!
So probably not too much new tomorrow...maybe some more info about the bugs, but the official results won't be in till Wed a.m. And then she'll have her procedure with the bile duct on Wed too.
No picts tonight...I'm taking my turn to sleep at the hospital with Claire. A much more happy-faced-Claire was present today!
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Thanks for the update.
Claire is becoming too accustomed to being in the hosital.
But we are grateful that she lives so close to such a great medical facility.
Glad I got to read an update. Sorry she is having to deal with all this. Boo to bugs! I will send you all some very happy and positive energy.
