Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

quick fun notes

Benson enjoyed some soccer fun again on Saturday. Mabel turned 18 months last week. And Claire is enjoying good health!...and being Annie's mom, and playing with friends, and riding bikes, and skipping around the house the rest of the time.

The other day she was listening to the song, five little monkey's jumping on the bed. One fell off and broke his head. Momma called the doctor and the doctor said. No more monkey's jumping on the bed. Next question: "mom, do you think that monkey had to go to the hospital and go to sleep with the mask and have a little surgery?" Only from Claire could you get such a cute question.

I wanted, for my own sake, to record a the words Mabel is saying at 18-months old. So here it goes: mom, dad, chip, dip, off, all done, bye bye, hi, eye(s), that, me, baby, bib, gurgely-throat ga ga for water, ball, eee-iiieee-isss for there-it-is and just about anything else you repeat to her. (I'm sure I'll find more words when I'm paying attention to her tomorrow, but there's a start). Favorite baby signs: fish (smack lips together), apple (fist to cheek) and flower (sniff sniff). She has to sniff the fake flower in her room every night before she goes to bed. Reminds me to take time and enjoy the roses!! She's a year and half and I still can't get over how much I LOVE this little girl!! She's brought a whole new dimension to our family. In many ways, she is the center of much of the joy, laughter, and fun all of us enjoy each day. Benson's still in unbelief too at how wonderful she is. Even just tonight he said, "Isn't she just the best, mom?! She's just so cute!!!" We love little Miss Mabel!!

Sometimes I think I would freeze my kids at 18 months. That is the BEST age. So cute.
