Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

home again

This is a first.

I looked at the clock at 5:53 pm. Jared and I had just finished putting the kids in bed. We haven't heard a peep, cry, question, or request.

We're home!

And they should be tired. 11 days filled with fun, tears, and heat is quite an adventure! And to top it off, we went to bed last night at 11:00 (kids) 12:00 (adults) and woke up at 3:30 (adults) 4:00 (kids) to catch a 6:00 (tired kids and adults) flight back to Rochester! And wouldn't ya know it...they didn't sleep till we were on the Minneapolis to Rochester flight...a whopping 25 minutes! And then they thought (incorrectly) they were good for the day!

Good thing the night started early. I'm a little fearful for tomorrow though. It seems the repercussion for this kind of stuff usually lasts for a good couple-o-days! But at least we're home. Happy and Home.
