Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

drinks anyone?

Claire had to get 6 pokes on Wednesday.  4 immunization shots.  2 pokes for blood work.  The first and only numbed arm didn't work.  Well it's not that her veins didn't work...it was just a bad stick.  Grrrr.  Following a huge protest in the negative from Claire, the other un-numbed arm was stuck and it worked.  That was an ordeal.  Followed by the 4 shots...phew!  That was pretty traumatic for all involved!!

I told Claire she could pick two things out from the dollar section of Target for being such a good sport on a poky-kind-of-day.  And of all the wonderful treasured found at the front of Target...this is what she choose!  Seriously.  And she couldn't be happier about it.  (This lovely piece of plastic happen to be $3 instead of $1 so that's why she only got one item.)

We've had lots of flavored drinks around here since then!


Oh and just in case you're wondering, it is April 12th and yesterday we had a snow/ice day.  No school.  I guess that's one bonus to living in Minnesota.  Lots of snow days.

Looks like Claire was pretty excited about her treasure from Target. Lots of fun drinks.
