Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

spring break

It's spring break...even if old man winter didn't get the memo.

We decided to take a break anyway!

Today we went to see some bald eagles at the National Eagle Center.  They had 5 eagles there, all of which had been wounded or were unable to live in the wild for some reason.  We got to watch the eagle eat it's lunch...a de-furred rabbit!  Yum.

The Eagle took a bath.  By the time he was done drying off his feathers, Mabel looked like she had just taken a bath!  She loved every minute of splashes!!

Then we went to a fun toy store, ate lunch, rode a beautiful hand-crafted carousel, and played around at the store.  Fun filled memory for an inside-spring-break day!
