Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Easter

Happy Easter!!

Easter wasn't quite warm, springy, green, and blooming with new life this year.  But there's Minnesota for ya!  April.  Spring has GOT TO COME in April, though!!!  I'm sure of it.  So Happy April too!!

We had a great March thinking and preparing for Easter.  This year we made our own sepulchral and each week in March we added something new to it and talked about the significance of that object.  We planted grass and talked about the garden; added the crosses; the guards; and then closed the tomb stone  on Friday and opened it on Sunday to see the empty tomb with the guards knocked down!  It was a much more meaningful Easter for our family this year as we truly focused on the significance of this holiday throughout the entire month (and anxiously watched our grass grow taller and taller!!)

We did enjoy for a few moments an easter egg hunt on Saturday morning.  It was cold and started to rain towards the end, but the kids didn't seem to mind.  They found their their candy-filled-eggs among the ice and snow but the yumminess inside each egg made it worth the cold hunt!

Happy Easter!
