Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

week of fun!

It's always a party when family comes into town...and this week has been no exception!  It started out with a birthday celebration for Grandma.  Benson and Claire decorated the house completely by themselves and Claire planned out every detail of the party (after consulting with Grandma): tacos for dinner, pie for the adults, cupcakes for kids, flowers on the table and homemade flowers next to them.  Claire was a great planner--it was a party enjoyed by all!!

On Tuesday we took advantage of the company and planned a fun-filled trip to Minneapolis.  We first went to the aquarium at The Mall of America.  The kids loved the underwater tunnel we got to walk through.  It was pretty cool, I must admit.  Shark, and turtles, and sting rays OH MY!!

A little lunch break on the bench with the cousins.

And then the rides!!  Toddler Tuesday ended up being a great time to go because there were no lines, no crowds, no worries!  Smiles all around!

Although of all the rides, both Benson and Claire agreed that the swings were the scariest!

Then we tried to do a little shopping at a really big mall.  Keeping Mabel entertained, when she is normally at home napping, is a trick.  She was quite interested in Mr. Purple Shirt, though.  That held her attention for a least a minute or two trying to figure him out!  Otherwise, she was rearranging the shoes, hiding between the clothing racks, or entertaining herself in a mirror!  We did happen upon a few treasures though.

We ended the day at Ikea with dinner and a long awaited purchase for the girly girls at Ikea.  Claire & Mabel finally got a bunk bed!  Claire's been "hoping, and wishing, and dreaming"(her exact words) for this for more than a year now...and now all her hopes and dreams have finally come true!  Mabel crawls out and in from her crib as slick as butter falls off a hot knife---and Claire's legs hang off the toddler bed she sleeps on or she sleeps diagonal to fit better!  It's definitely time for an upgrade for both girls.  According to Claire, Tuesday was the "best day ever!"  Aquarium, Mall of America rides, Lego Set*, Ikea ice cream, and bunk bed.  Super fun, super busy, super exciting day with our super family to spend it with!

* I gave Claire and Benson a challenge.  Two weeks ago, neither of them could do headstands.  So I told them when they could do headstand for 15 seconds, I'd buy them a Lego set.  It took days of head-rushes and upside down vision while practicing, but they finally got it!  NOW, Benson's record is over 2 minutes and Claire's is 28 seconds!  Go team!

Looks like a fun visit! It is so neat that you are getting acquainted with that area of the country. I bet the kids loved having their grandma and grandpa around. Oh, and shopping with a two year old is a joke. I know.

Looks like fun was had by all.

The underwater aquarium looks pretty cool.

I bet the girls will enjoy their new bunk beds.
They are growing up way too fast.
