Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Surgery Update April 13 4:00 pm

Everything went very well today. Claire's port was implanted without any problems and she is now feeling pretty good. The port site is still bruised and bloody, but at least the hard stuff is over with! Waking up from the anesthesia is always a hard thing, but an hour later she was feeling more like herself again. The port is able to be used immediately.

We are all in the play room, playing: Benson and Jared on the Play Station and Claire at the doll house. She and I are a little tired, after a 6:45 check-in time this morning, but we got a little snooze during a movie earlier today. Overall, things are well. Jared will most likely stay the night with Claire and hopefully we'll all be home sometime tomorrow!

so glad it went well, it's hard on the littles ones to be put under, but I think it's even harder on the moms :-) (((hugs)))
