Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

You're kidding, right?

The cows are in the meadow
eating buttercups
Thunder lightening
we all JUMP UP!

Benson and Claire were playing Ring around the Rosie this morning. A favorite around here. After we all fall down, the cows are in the meadow song soon follows to get everyone back on their feet and ready for another round! Simple. Harmless fun. Right.?.

Not when you hear a crack after the words WE ALL JUMP UP!

X.Rays. Confirmed non-displaced fracture. Cast. Pink-chosen by the Princess herself. Long day. There goes her water/bath-time fun for the next 4 weeks.

And to top things off, she wouldn't urinate today. She must have been holding it back because of pain. They ended up having to put a catheter in when we were at the cast room after almost 8 hours of holding it in. Hopefully she goes potty through the night okay.

We had to cancel the hematology apt this afternoon to talk about the blood clot. I spoke with them on the phone and because of this tibia fracture, they want to hold her heparin injections for a week to decrease the risk of bleeding in her leg. There's a plus. No shots for a week! They'll do an ultrasound of the blood clot in her neck at the end of next week to see how things are looking and most likely resume the injections at that time.

Claire needs to catch a break....just not this kind.

Oh Natalie and Claire and Jared and Benson. I think Elder Uchtdorf's patience talk was about your family and how you set the example for everyone. Lots of prayers.

Seriously about her needing to catch a break!!! I think it was you who said about Elizabeth's cast, that the little casts really are pretty cute. But a pain, literally for Claire, and in lots of ways for you too. So sorry to hear about it. I'm looking forward to your visit. If you don't have someone picking you up, I can definitely do that. I also thought we should arrange a lunch get together for Sat. for those not going to the pageant who want to see you. (I'm probably not going -- hard with a nursing baby). I also have the donations from the box at King Soopers that I'll give you when you come.

At least the casts come in different colors these days. I am sorry to hear that she has a hurt leg.
