Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

baby update

Well, today I am 30 weeks!! That means if this baby follows the trend Benson and Claire set, we could have a baby in T minus 8 weeks!! Wow. That's crazy. I had an ultrasound and dr. apt today and things couldn't be better. They did the ultrasound to check for baby's growth and it's right on track. It weighs approx 3 lbs. 8 oz. and everything measures exactly right for how many weeks I am along. Of particular note to myself, I've gained 21 lbs. so far this pregnancy which is shockingly amazing! With Claire, I think I only gained 22 lbs. total and it was only 24 lbs. with Benson. All those peach shakes I've been eating every night are coming in handy! And I'm still always soooo hungry!! Almost frustratingly hungry...I just can't find/make enough good food to eat to satisfy my hunger. Frustrating! But good. It's all paying off and looking great. The fun part about my day was getting to see our baby in 3D! I've never seen images like that of my child before. The ultrasound technician was doing it "just for fun"...after we checked out all the real stuff they needed...and it was "just fun"!! SO crazy to see a real image of the face--eyes blinking, tongue going in and out, hands always by the face, or grabbing onto the feet. It was a REAL sneak peak at the coming arrival!! It made me so excited and anxious to have this little one join our family! So glad and relieved all has gone well thus far. Now I just have A LOT to do in the next 8-10 weeks!...and if my back didn't hurt as often as it does, I'd probably get a lot more of it done!!

Natalie, I'm so excited for your family! Babies are so wonderful! And I can't believe Benson is 5! Where has the time gone?! Hope things continue to go well for you guys. Claire is doing and saying so many cute things. Miss you. (And tell Claire this family still prays for her kidney and liver.)
